Weight Loss Tips for Men
I was talking to a friend over a coffee this morning and mentioning about the ideal male physique and how to attain it.
You see, most men, especially over the age over 40 aren’t interested in “getting huge” or winning this years “Mr everything” they simply want to lean down, build a nice natural amount of muscle with low levels of body fat.
More than that though, they want to FEEL great and that’s important because the way most fitness / training plans are setup these days is a joke.

A lot of fitness gurus would have you believe that to get fit and look awesome you need to make so many sacrifices that fitness will end up consuming you.
In fact, fitness will consume you so much, it will spill over into every area of your life.
Want to go out on an adventure this weekend? Better make sure you pack all your Tupperware meals.
Want to get lean? Better make sure you do at least an hour of cardio every day.
Want to lose fat? Better make sure you stick to eating 6 bland and tasteless meals every day.
The list goes on and on…
But this way of training will make you feel miserable and isn’t sustainable.
To top it all off, men over 40 go from doing practically NOTHING to swinging the pendulum all the other way resulting in an obsessive and destructive behaviour mechanism that leads to burnout, frustration and lack of results.
I know the gurus are telling you to do 4-6 weight training sessions per week, I know they advise protein power. I know they love to slam cardio, cardio and even more cardio down your throat.
But honestly there’s a much better, sustainable way to this whole fitness thing. Something so powerful that it motivated me to start this blog in the first place.
Simplicity
Bruce Lee once said that “simplicity is the key to brilliance” and mentality is so important to have when it comes to getting a physique that you’re not only proud of but is sustainable over the long run.
After all, what’s the point in living if this whole fitness thing is going to be the only thing you’re concerned about?
That said, the KEY to getting lean is keeping it simple. Use a few compound exercises per body part. Use a few works sets for each muscle group. Focus on ONE solid method of progression.
Eat 2-3 meals that you enjoy per day.
Do a FEW cardio sessions per week.
Does this method of training work? You bet!
Well look at my body fat percentage on this typical day out walking in the park, I’m round about 10% body fat whilst taking a very relaxed approach to fitness.
That doesn’t mean I won’t train hard, but everything is in context.
How have I got there?
By practicing what I preach! I’m not taking any supplements, I’m not strength training more than 3 x per week. I’m not doing excessive amounts of cardio.
So, if I want to lean down, I might add in an extra cardio session from one to two. I will clean up my diet so that I’m not eating out as much, but this is a far cry from that crazy fitness approach.
Guys when it comes to fitness keep it simple, honestly, you’ll thank me for it.
Chuck the protein supplements in the bin, scrap the obsessive cardio, kill the “I must kill myself to get lean mentality”
Free yourself from the fitness prison you’re creating. You’ll be fine. You’ll be a lot happier and you’ll start getting the results you WANT for once in your life.
One of the reasons a lot of men over 40 can’t get lean is because they’re going crazy with cardio, going crazy with weight training and going crazy about fitness.
And this obsessive lifestyle is a recipe for disaster, especially for men over 40 with demanding lives.
So, stop, take a deep breath, take a week off and study what I want to share with you.
Take a while to study nutrition that makes you feel great, instead of chugging down processed protein shakes and eating every few hours.
Return to strength training only 3 days per week using compound movements that are safe for you. Add in a cardio, strength circuit once per week to help speed up the fat burning process.
Hit a slight calorie deficit and focus on losing that next 1½ lbs pounds this week.
Eat enough calories to keep you feeling full and satisfied. Eat enough carbohydrates to keep your energy levels high and enough fat to keep your testosterone high.
Do not starve yourself!
Then watch as you get leaner, stronger and feel fantastic.
You’ll never feel burnt out, a slave to the gym or a slave to whey protein every again
